Elaine, it's a common issue with wedding planners - we may be great planners, but not so great salespeople. Our mentoring services can provide help with that in assessing your current sales practices and making suggestions for improving your sales strategy and hopefully increasing your bookings!

Upload the images, guzzle water and soak my poor feet. If I've been going non-stop in the heat a shower may also be involved here!

I liked your article very much and found it very true. I especially liked your idea of offering the couple another one of your services. You never know what will hit someone's hot button.

Great advice Jolyn!
As a new mom I sometimes find it difficult to manage both of my passions (weddings and my wee bundle) without feeling some sort of frustration on both ends.
I want to offer great service to my clients, and I want to be a great mom. Both take time and energy.

As my business grows, I'm finding that I have to check dates to see if I'm already booked (a good place to be!), and if there are two dates back to back, I get that bit of a knot in my stomach. Each wedding takes dedication and commitment - and a week to recover from too!

Saying 'no' has been powerful and freeing for me lately! OK, so admittedly I've only said 'not to a potential client I knew would be tough, but still, I learned something about the value of my time, and my worth!

Thanks again for sparking this!

I've done some big weddings with some very prominent clients and they were okay. But they tend to treat you like the hired help. I much more enjoy the middle and upper middle class brides who still work for a living or are just getting out of college. They seem much more appreciative and we become friends for more than just the wedding planning period. I was told once by a very wise planner that there are two kinds of brides: There are brides who on their wedding day will be "a queen for the day" and then there are brides where getting married is "just another day in the life of the queen." It took me a while to understand it, but after 10 years and over 200 weddings I can spot them right away.

I am usually on my third pair of shoes by the end of the night. I have heels for the church and depending on if the reception is indoor or outdoor I change into something a little less formal. Then for tear down its tennis shoes or sketchers. When I get home I put the bouquet in the garage fridge, Grab some ice cream and take my husband of piece of wedding cake. He eats while I am in the shower. Then I'm in bed and he gives me a foot rub. If its after 1:00 am he usually doesn't wait up for me. So we have the cake for breakfast. The next day I unpack, and tie up loose ends.
