So as I stumble through the world of wedding and event blogs, from time to time I come across details that make me stop, shake my head, and give me a urge to contact the blog owner.

On this one, I did…

While looking through a wedding planners’ website, and glancing through the pages, as I got to her ‘accolades’ page, I noticed the first entry was from a summer 2007 wedding – 3 years ago!

I knew this planner was active and had a good rep, surely she had to have more recent testimonials, and as I scrolled through the dozens, I noticed the last entry was 2009.

Your testimonials page should always read from the ‘most’ current – not the best, the most current! Because brides surf wedding sites long before they ever get engaged, and if they keep coming back to your page with a 2007 testimonial on top, they may not notice the new ones you added. I’ve booked many a bride because for years they’ve been watching my site and love reading through the testimonials.

So, fess up, who has their most favorite testimonial on top? Who isn’t even trying to collect testimonials?

I love twitter and Facebook for many different reasons.

But I hated the time it took to keep connected and updated. I tried many tools, but thought all lacked usefulness the way I wanted to use the social media.

Then I found Hootsuite – you can activate an account at www.hootsuite.com

I like that I can see multiple of my twitter accounts and multiple facebook pages, and post to as many of them as I want at one time.

They do have an app for using with the iphone, but right now it only seems to work with twitter – can’t wait until it can coordinate with facebook too.

If you are struggling to merge all your social media accounts into a handy managment system, this one may work for you too. If you are using a different management tool – which one are you using?

On my weddings blog, I’ve struggled to keep it current and on top of the trends.

I started by creating a draft entry anytime I thought of a topic to write about. This was great when I had time to blog then I at least had some ideas to start with.

But then I had nearly 100 drafts and still not much content.

So part of my New Years’ resolution was to create an editorial calendar. For me, it meant setting certain days/weeks of each month to a certain topic. Then on my calendar, I set what topic I am going to cover for each of those days.

The great part of this is that when I dedicated one afternoon to blogging, because the editorial calendar spreads out the topics, I have a good solid base of blogging created over the next 3 months. Any new time I find to blog will be dedicated to dates past those. The hopes, is that I get to be ahead of the game, and always have some topics scheduled to post.

I still have to do the same with this blog, but I’m happy that 3 days into the New Year I’ve accomplished a great system for keeping my wedding blog current.

Do you use an editorial calendar? How do you structure it?

Although business is picking up for many wedding planners, there seems to be one area of their marketing that consistently is a trouble maker…their confidence.

Not only are you a wedding planner, a wedding coordinator, a business owner – you are also an a sales person. Every day, you have to sell your services, and more importantly, sell YOU!

You may have the best marketing materials, best prices, best sales pitch – if you aren’t confident in your presentation – all of those other things won’t give you much help.

So, how to you go about becoming more confident, when you don’t feel it?

Put on some high energy mood music to listen too while prepping for a new client meeting (what song is your anthem that makes you feel empowered?)

Before your meeting, look yourself in the mirror and say ‘I will book this wedding’ – say it 10x or more until you feel like you can believe it

Don’t use the phrase ‘I can’t’ or ‘I haven’t’ in a consultation – if you haven’t done a cultural wedding, when the client asks about one, respond with ‘I’ve been looking forward to an opportunity to work with a couple of that culture – I’ve done a lot of research and am excited about incorporating some of those traditions into your wedding day!”

If the couple doesn’t book right away – don’t get discouraged, send a follow up email or call explaining how you are excited for an opportunity to work with them. Let them know you know how busy they are, but if they have questions or would like a contract to sign, you’ll be pleased to forward that to them…act confident even after they leave the office

If they don’t book your services, offer them one of your lower services, especially if price was an issue. If they can’t afford full planning services, perhaps day coordination with some hourly consults would better suit their budget

Confidence is your most important sales tool – too much confidence, you’ll come off as arrogent to the couple – not enough confidence and they won’t want to put their wedding plans in your hands.

What else do you do to make yourself feel more confident going into a new prospect meeting?

I’m sure in your internet surfing you’ve seen a photo of your website in a directory or other website. Did you happen to notice that perhaps the photo was of an outdated version of your website? Well, there is an easy way to make sure the internet community is using your most current version of your website.

I try to remember to use this tool everytime I make a major design change to my website. Most internet directories pull off of one program for their website thumbnail pictures…and you can make sure it also is using the most updated version.

If you haven’t done it yet, or if you’ve had an established website and have made some design changes recently, then you need to visit – http://www.snap.com

Simply force it to visit your website and take a new snapshot, and in a short amount of time, you’ll see updated versions of your website image appear in many directories and website.

Don’t enter your domain frequently, because you run the risk of becoming disliked (LOL) so only submit your domain this one time, and then only when you make major graphical changes to your website.

So this past Saturday, I came home, and started my post-wedding routine…when I hear him chuckling at me…

I had forgotten he’s seldom here when I get home, and needless to say he got a laugh out of me soaking my feet in the bathtub with ice cold water, in my comfy PJs, guzzling 2 litres of water and downloading all my photos from my camera and video recorder.

I was on a mission, and I wasn’t going to bed until I had done everything I usually do…

So for this Talk Tuesday – what does your post wedding routine entail?? What do you ‘have’ to do after each wedding when you finally get home…comment below!
